Ladies, can you believe it? I actually made something else than a Mandela.

I found this pretty red and white striped cotton yarn

and knew right away what I wanted to make with it.

The design is my own

and I think it came out pretty good.

Here is my bag hanging next to my favorite bird.....

.....you know the one I mean, haha

Mandela #9

Thanks for stopping by today. As you can see I am still on my Mandela kick. I just can't stop. And the more I want to stop, the more new patterns I see appearing and with that it is over for me. I am just plain hooked. Please come and help me get over this madness.

Here now is one I have designed myself. I hope you like it.

But first I thought I would share a little description of what the different colors stand for in a Mandela. Very interesting, don't you think?

The one thing that is crazy about a Mandela is allllll those strings.

You do have to do a lot of sewing in.

If you should be interested in the pattern please let me know and I will post it.

I should have written it down as I went along,

but sadly I didn't.

So now I am going back and doing just that, so I have it

as a future reference.

Link-Yourself Monday #24

Happy Monday my Friends. Hope your Easter holiday was enjoyable and fun.

Last week was crazy for me. Everything was sort of topsy turvy. First I didn't have any Internet. Usually that happens when we had a lot of rain, which we did. Normally it would come back on after it stopped. Well not this time. So this time we had to call the repairmen and you all know how long that can take. It surely made me realize how much I actually use my computer. More than I thought. But with Spring now finally here, I really need to spend more time outside enjoying the weather, the flowers and trees and being able to go for a walk, before it get's so hot again and we have to stay back inside. 

One good thing came out of all that. My closets got cleaned out. Summer cloth out, Winter cloth put away. Also a lot of other things got done that been put on the back burner. For once I didn't do much with a crochet hook last week, so this week it will get a workout again. Two friends of mine and I will be part of a crafts show in June and there many things I still want to make for it. Will share some of that with you as we go along.

In the next few days I plan on catching up with all your lovely blogs and your comments. Looking forward to seeing what's new and exciting.

Sadly the weekend is over and it is back to work for some of us. My weekend wasn't to bad, if busier than I thought it would be, but that's ok. I did get to do most of the things that I had planned. What more could a girl want?

Happy Monday my Friends! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

After quite a break I have decided it is time to go back to LINK-YOURSELF Monday. So I hope you will join me. You will find the Link-Up at the end of my post.

Today I will share a Granny Mandela Tutorial. Hope I write it in a way you can understand.

We will start by chaining 4 and joining them with sling stitch.

Chain 3 (counts as first dc), follow by 1 dc, chain 1,

repeat until you have 6 clusters.

Rd. 2 - sling stitch in between cluster and chain 3 (counts as first dc),

1 more dc, chain 1, 2 dc in same space, chain 1, repeat around in each space.

Fasten off.

With new color start in any space with a stand-up dc.

Continue by adding 2 more dc's in same space.

Chain 1.

Continue with 3 dc's in each space around.

Fasten off.

Rd. 4 

Once again 3 dc's in each space.

Fasten off.

Rd. 5

With new color crochet 2 dc's, chain 1, 2 dc's, chain 1

in each space around.

Fasten off.

Rd. 6

With new color, crochet 3 dc's, 1 chain in each space around, join with

sling stitch, fasten off.

Rd. 7

Repeat Rd. 6 all the way around.

Fasten off.

Rd. 8

With new color 2 dc's, chain 1, 2 dc's in same space, chain 1

all the way around .

Fasten off.

Rd 9 - Final

With new color crochet 5 dc's in center (chain) of each 4 dc cluster,

chain 1, repeat all the way around.

Fasten off and sew in strings.

Someone ask me where the Mandela came from and that is a question I had ask myself as well. When I googled it, it didn't give much information. Does any of you have an idea what it actually means and if the colors you use have a significance? If you do, please share with us. Thank you!

A Walk in the Country & Mandela #2

This morning the sun is shining and it made me want to get out of the house for a few minutes. It's still a bit cool, but comfortable. So I decided to take a walk down the road from where I live. It's very country.

This Mom Cow gave me a look like "What are you bothering us for"?
