52 Week Crochet Challenge - Week 1 & a Giveaway

Week 1: How Do You Celebrate National Crochet Month?

Well the first thing I did is to join this lovely 1 year, 52 week challenge into the world of crochet. It is a wonderful challenge and I am looking forward to learning something new every week, to challenge myself to doing new things and last but not least to meet other like minded friends along the way. I think that is a great way to celebrate National Crochet Month. What do you think?

This morning I also got a little excited. You wonder why? Well let me tell you. I came ready to post this morning and what do I see? Yes, I have 100 Followers. While I was watching Downton Abbey Part 4

"Happy Monday" Friends!

First I would like to say Thank You to all the lovely participants in the "Grow your Blog" event who have stopped by my blog and have left wonderful comments, joined the give-away and/or became followers. It was quite a wonderful event.

It was a good thing that I had a day of Saturday during this event, because let me tell you, I couldn't stop browsing around all the lovely blogs on the list. I spend hours looking at all that loveliness. The only thing that kept me going was a cup of coffee or two. So many beautiful crafts and so much color. There will be quite a few new blogs that I will follow and enjoy. What a lovely way to get to know new and interesting people, and I am glad to be part of it.

So with that said, it is a good thing I got any kind of crochet done at all. But I did. I did cheat a little bit and worked on the shawl in between shows when I had a little time. Last night while watching Part 4 of the show, I finished the shawl itself. So now all I have left is the border and I hope I will be able to finish it during next weeks show and than have a big Ta-Ta.

The shawl itself is crocheted in two directions, from the 

center out.

With that it gave this nice center affect. It looks

a bit like a flower.

There is quite a bit of controversy going on around my favorite show. Many people are complaining about the changes. I personally say, change is good. With one of the favorite characters leaving last season, it left a hole. They also brought in a story line that is not very popular. I don't want to say what that is, as I don't want to be a spoil sport to those who haven't seen it yet, but I think bad things happen to good people and it is interesting to watch how people will deal with these problems. Enough said. I will continue to be a loyal fan of the show.

Welcome and please come in. First I would like to say a big Thanks to Vicki at 2 Bags Full for hosting this wonderful Blog Party for us little Crafters who are still in need of growing our blogs. It's very much appreciated.

My name is Erika and I for the moment live in rural northern Arkansas. I am single (divorced) and in my mid-fifties.I share my house with four lovely critters, two doggies, a Yorkie named Gidget and a Shit-Zhu named Seffi, and two cats, one boy named Picaso and one female named Sissi (my little grumpy cat).

                                                          

                      

My adventures into crafting started when I was a wee little bit, around 5 or 6. I was very lucky to have had a loving and very patient Granny to take the time to teach me things from sewing to crocheting and knitting. They have become a live long love for me. Originally I come from Germany, but I have enjoyed live in the USA for over 35 years now

For a living I work as a Caregiver for Alzheimer, Cancer and Heart Patients. For that reason I work a lot of odd hours and also can't blog as much as I once did. But I love what I do and so that is ok.

I started blogging to keep a record of some of the things I was making and doing in my life. I also just loved to browse through all the other lovely blogs out there with their wonderful colorful crafts. They inspire me and encourage me to do better. My first love is crochet, but I also knit, sew, loom and yes even a little painting.

One of the things I collect is Coca-Cola and for that reason you will see many crafts on my blog made around the colors of red, white and black. My living room is arranged around this collection, which is steadily growing. I just love it!

So now how about it little give-away for all the lovely people joining this blog party? You want to know what it is? Well I think I will keep that a secret for a little while longer, but I promise it will be something everyone will enjoy. Hint: it will be something I have sewn or crocheted. Everybody is welcome to participate.

Link-Yourself Monday

Good Monday Morning my lovely Ladies! Hope you all had a wonderful Halloween weekend. Personally I had a wonderful weekend, with a Haunted Barn, lots of Kids dressed in their costumes and the weather actually held up this year. How did you spend your Halloween?

Here I thought I tell you of a little give-away over at Stitching-N-Shipping. You need to check it out. She is giving away this wonderful Christmas Stocking. I am envious. Wish I could sew like that. Well I know I will have to through my name in the basket.

On my Crafting front, I am working on a round seat cover. All in all I need to make three of them. They will cheer up the kitchen, or so I hope. Besides that I am working on a custom order, which I will share with you as soon as it is completed. My Christmas Crafts Projects are also moving along. Is it really Tuesday already again? Why is it, that the older you get, the faster the time seems to fly? So I guess we better enjoy Life to the fullest why we can, huh?

I like to sing, I like to hum,

people say - I've been in the rum.

I like to laugh, I like to grin,

people think I was drinking again.

I tell a story or laugh at a joke,

all I had was a nice cold coke.

The happiness and joy that I display,

is just because I'm made that way.

Don't need things to give happiness a start,

all I need lives right in my heart.

Over this last weekend I did a lot, and I mean a lot of browsing through every bodies blogs, weather they were American, French, German, English, Spanish or Dutch. WOW, there are just so many beautiful blogs out there in Blog land. Can tell you, I became a follower to many of them. I found many different styles in writing, picture taken and of course the crafts themselves. 

Now I am curious to find out, what do you look for when picking out the blogs you follow. Is it the craft itself? Or is the writing? Do you enjoy looking at all the pictures? What characteristics impress you the most? Does it matter what language they are in? Are you also looking at blogs that have nothing to do with crafting of any kind?

Tuesday Question and a Gift in the Mail

"Happy Tuesday" everybody. Our thermostat hit the 100F mark for the last few days. Yikes...... Is it that hot in your neck of the woods? I'm normally not one to complain, but I got to admit, this is killing me. Seems like since hitting 50 I can't handle this kind of heat as well as I used to. Here in the south the humidity does not help, but makes it feel even hotter. Hard to believe summer just started and it's only June. These are the kind of temperatures we usually get in August. Really hope that doesn't mean we will have that hot of a summer, as I really love the outdoors.

Well....I did have a nice and wonderful surprise in the mail today, one I was Lucky enough to actually win. I was the 100th Follower at Molly's blog ( Crocheting my Best with my Worsted ) and because of it received this lovely book, 24-Hour Crochet Projects by Rita Weiss ,shock full of things I am sure to try. What a wonderful gift to get and how appreciated. Thank you so much again Molly....You made my day! Hope you get to mark 200 Followers real soon and continued success with your craft and your blog.

As it was so nice and for this time of year, warm outside, I went outside with my dogs to play. Boy did they love it and have a good time. Would you like a little glimpse of my critters (and bedwarmers)? You said YES. Ok, here we go:

 

 

  

They so love to play with a big soccer ball. If I want them to get tired, all I have to do is let them chase that ball for 10 minutes and they are ready to get back to their dog beds and a little nap. Just LOVE my critters.

Now I thought I would share 2 pictures with you. They were taken at my friends wedding a couple of weeks ago. I just love their simplicity (no faces). To me sometimes they are the best kind of pictures and say the most.

  

I just loved her wedding dress with all the little pearls and the long drain. If their faces weren't on it, I would show you some more, but I respect their privacy. What do you think? Are they not beautiful?
