Happy Thursday to All

Well everyone is most likely getting ready for the long Holiday weekend....
I have been working on my baby blanket.. it is slow going due to the pegs being small and close together.... But there it is,,
I have also made a little itty bitty baby hat and booties with the same yarn as in the blanket
The hat is made on the blue KK loom which is for preemies and very little newborns.. I will make another hat that is somewhat larger also...

Sorry my pictures aren't very good... but I think you get the idea...
Also working on a loomed hat with Deoborah Norville yarn...
1 strand only done very loose as an ewrap 1 over 1 .. no brim
Figured some people do like hats very loose...lol
Just a light neutral color with darker flecks in it....

Other than that will most likely do a blue variegated hat also just so in between... most likely also on the round KK loom... They changed the plastic material on this loom and its much easier I believe than the old ones.. Its smoother.,..
But the blue hat I will make will most likely be a knit and purl stitch or just a knit.. It will be a tighter fit.
So what are everyones plans this weekend? I must be honest since its just hubby and me will most likely not be BBQ... or maybe we will get some take out ribs or something... We have a BBQ about 8 minutes from us that really out cooks themselves,,,
I hope everyone has a save Holiday weekend...
Happy Looming Birgit

A Lovely Friday it is and Hello to Everyone

Hi Everyone... Thought I would just take the time to say Hello and introduce myself. I am Birgit or Mausie..lol.. German like Erika but in the USA a few more years than she is..We actually met on the internet... no clue anymore on when or how but we became sisters of the heart.
I have always loved crafts but never seemed to be able to finish anything I made. Even way back when in school. Just never had the patience for anything.. then last year my crafting journey began.. Due to several health issues I became disabled at age 50 and that demon depression was doing a number on me.. Those that have health problems especially chronic ones know what I mean.
So I dug out the long purple Knifty Knitter I had bought last year at some point but just couldn't make heads or tails out of at the time and tried to follow the booklet instructions that came with it. Let me tell you it was horrible those booklets are horrible for a beginner..
So off I went to search online... Found loads of great Blogs on Looming and good instructions and videos on You tube. Don't we just love You Tube??? There is such a wealth of information out there. Anyhow I seen some real easy looking baby hats made on the little blue Knifty Knitter Loom and off I went alooming.
This Picture is my first Baby hat ever,, It was made with Red Heart yarn which is not correct but I finished it correctly I may add,,So I then bought the purple round hat Knifty knitter loom and the set of long KK looms. Anyhow I treated myself for my Birthday with the help of Hobby Lobby's 40% off coupon and bought myself the long Knitting board.... Started a baby afghan on it....

The yarn is from Hobby Lobby called Lamskins Baby Boucle a lovely variegated color.. Working up real nice.. It is slower going on the knitting board than on the KK's due to the pegs being smaller and closer together but I just love how its turning out.
I have made other things on the KK looms as in plastic bag holder, several hats both adult and childs... It calms me down to sit and loom and see something growing in front of me..
I usually listen to tv or music or audio books when I am looming.... Say what do other crafters do while intent on their craft??? Would interest me to know....Enough for today.. Wishing everyone a wonderful and happy weekend... till next time......

African Flowers continued and Guest Blogger

Howdy Folks.....yep, am about as southern as it gets. Which is kind of funny, when you think about it, seeing that I come from Germany and all. What can I say, it just sort of rubs off on you and before you know it, you pick up the slang that is spoken in your area. When I go places, people are always trying to figure out where I come from, since I don't really have a total German accent anymore, but I have also lived in different places around the United States and have therefor picked up a few different words from those areas. I have made a little game out of it over the years and can be great fun.

Some News at this point: I have decided to have a guest-blogger from time to time to fill in when I can't make it, as I seem so very busy in the summer month. I thought it would be fun to hear from someone else and show someone else's work, so we can appreciated it as well. She works mostly with looms and it is an area I have not explored so far. I think it will be very interesting for me as well. So let's welcome her into our rounds. Her name is Birgit, or nicknamed Mausie. I hope you all enjoy her works and please leave a a nice comment or two. Thanks!

Otherwise it has been a busy week again so far. The weather has been on the nice side, not to hot and not to cold, which I would call perfect weather. Could live like that year round.  We have been working on our new barn daily. The walls are up and yesterday the roof went up. There will be more work to come in the next few weeks, but we are ready for the first horse show next Tuesday evening. We are looking forward to the fun of it.

Well....a couple of days ago I showed you my first African Flower. They are currently super popular and I must admit, I got hooked as well. They are really fun to make and the color combinations are absolutely wonderful and there are so many of them. They is also a Flickr group dedicated to them and you might want to take a look at them. If you made something yourself, let me know so I can look at yours. I would like to make mine into a round cushion, but must admit I have not seen a pattern for it yet. If any of you know where i could look, I would appreciate it very much. Here now a little looksy at some of mine:

Tuesday Question

Just a short post for today, just to pass along the Tuesday Question:

When either crocheting, knitting or sewing, do you make most items for yourself and family or do you give most of your projects away? And what is your favorite project to make as a gift and why?

And here is just a little peek at what I am working on right now. And before you can say it.....yes I followed the current African Flower Craze. Just couldn't help myself. They are just so beautiful and one can make so many different projects with them. More on the subject later.....

A little of this and a little of that

Hallo my lovely friends!

On this cloudy Thursday, I sit here with my favorite cup of coffee in front of me, trying to just relax a few minutes and enjoy this quiet time that I have so little of as of late. Every day I try and sit down to write a post, but life keeps getting in the way. Sorry to say we had two more funerals around here. I got to admit, I really hope that was the last of it for this year or better said, for a long time to come. It is such a sad time for the family, but as we all know, also a part of life.

On to more cheerful things. I haven't had a chance to tell you about my Mother's Day yet. I want you to know, it was one of the best days that I have had in a long time. It was all spend outdoors and in the country. The weather was just perfect, not to hot and not to cold, but believe it or not, I got my first sunburn for the season. I guess it is such days that we got to watch out for. Well, we spend the day at our Arkabutler Lake pasture with the horses. The whole family came and everybody got to ride. The kids had such a blast. The bigger the horse, the better they liked it. There is nothing like seeing the joy in their eyes. I also got to ride, but on a horse I have never been on before and I got to admit it was a little scary, as it was a walking horse and you have to hold the reigns in both hands and not like you do in regular riding. Everybody got a good laugh out of me, as I sat so seriously on the horse, constantly worrying if I was about to end up on the ground. I guess I will have to practice some more in the future and hope that it will get easier with time. I also spend some time with my own horse, Macani....which means "Wind and Earth". She is a bit temperamental and the name suits her. As my girlfriend always says: "First you feel the wind in your hair and than the earth on your behind". Thought that would get a giggle out of all of you. You want a looksy at her (and me)?

Isn't she beautiful? The horse I mean? (haha)
Well I did also manage to do a little bit of crafting and actually finished something. Progress!! Actually I really have been working a little bit on my other WIP's as well. It's not going as fast as I would like, but with my current schedule, I am just happy to be able to work on some things.

I saw this hat in a crochet magazine and liked it very much. It said it would fit most anybody and I found out, I am NOT most anybody, because when I was finished with it, it surely did not fit my head. I did decide so, that I would go ahead and make it again and try to adjust the pattern to fit me. I will post this head again sometime in the future, with the adjustments made. I also had to unravel once, as I did not read the pattern correctly and repeated a couple of rounds. At that time it got warped. Here now the finished product. what you think? My girlfriend tried to model that head for me as best as she could.

Gone wrong.....

Sorry, the pictures are not the best. One of these days I will learn how to take a proper picture and how to use this newer camera.

And here, as I say Good Bye for today, one last look at Arkabutler Lake. Have to tell you all some more about that area at a later time. Enjoy the rest of your day and we will see each other hopefully soon again.
